Using Detergent and Water

One of the easiest ways to remove hairspray stains from taffeta is to use a mild detergent and warm water. Before you start, it’s important to test a small area of the taffeta to ensure the fabric is colorfast. Do this by applying a very small amount of the detergent solution to an inconspicuous spot on fabric.

If the fabric is colorfast, begin by gently blotting stain with a clean, damp cloth. Be sure to work from outside of the stain inward as pressing too hard may cause hairspray to spread and make the stain bigger. Once the excess hairspray has been removed with cloth, apply a small amount of detergent solution to stain and then scrub it lightly with a soft-bristled brush.

Once the hairspray stain has been treated, rinse the affected area with cold water and then wash the taffeta according to care directions. After the garment has been washed, check the stain to see if it has been removed. If stain is still visible, repeat the entire process until the stain has been removed.

Using White Vinegar

White vinegar is another effective way to remove hairspray stains from taffeta. To start, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water together in a bowl. Then, using a clean sponge, dab the vinegar solution onto the hairspray stain.

After the stain has been saturated with the vinegar solution, let it sit for at least 15 minutes. When the time is up, rinse the taffeta with cold water, making sure to ensure all of vinegar has been removed. Then, wash the fabric according to care instructions and inspect to ensure the stain has been removed.

Using Isopropyl Alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide

Another effective way to remove hairspray stains from taffeta is to use a combination of isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Start by mixing together equal parts isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Then, using a clean cloth, apply the solution to stain.

Once the stain has been saturated, let it sit for at least 30 minutes. After the time is up, rinse the taffeta with cold water and then wash according to care instructions. Once the garment has been washed, check the stain to see if it has been removed. If the stain is still visible, repeat the entire process until the stain has been fully removed.
