When it comes to cleaning hairspray from a sweater, it's important to act quickly. The sooner you attend to the stain, the easier it will be to remove. Start by blotting the stain with a paper towel or tissue, being careful not to rub too hard and spread the stain further. You want to blot up as much of hairspray as possible.

Next, dampen a washcloth with lukewarm water and either a small amount of gentle detergent or white vinegar. Gently dab the stain with the cloth, again taking care not to rub too vigorously. Continue to dab the area until the stain has faded, then rinse the area with cold water. Blot with another clean cloth and be sure to check the inside and outside of the garment for any remaining traces of hairspray.

Finally, lay the sweater flat outdoors or on a towel and let it dry in sun. This will help to ensure that all stains have been removed. If all else fails, you can always take the sweater to a dry cleaner and have them take care of it.
