Hairspray can be a blessing and a curse. When sprayed in moderation, it can lift and hold hair, adding texture as well as control. But when hairspray is not used carefully, it can end up on clothing, like stockings, leaving behind an unwelcome residue. Removing hairspray from stockings is a bit tricky, but it can be done.
For heavier stains, you may need to use a stronger solution. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of cold water and follow the same steps listed above. If the stain persists, you should hand wash the area with a liquid detergent.
If the above steps don't work, you can also opt for a commercial stain remover. Before you apply remover, be sure to read the manufacturer’s directions and test the product on a hidden area of stocking first.
The best way to prevent hairspray stains is to be mindful of product when styling your hair. Always spray hairspray with your head tilted slightly away from your clothing and never directly onto it. You should also avoid wearing thin fabrics while styling your hair as they are more prone to absorbing the product.
By following these tips, you should be able to keep your stockings clean and free of hairspray residues.
