The first step in removing any stain from fabric is to blot it with a damp cloth. For hairspray stains on spandex, you'll want to use a white cloth since colored or patterned fabrics may transfer dye onto the fabric. Do not rub the stain as this can set it in deeper and make it more difficult to remove.
To make a paste that you can use to tackle hairspray stain, mix together equal parts of baking soda and dish soap. Dip a soft-bristled brush into the paste and apply to the stain. Let the paste sit on the fabric for 15-20 minutes to allow it to break down the hairspray.
Once the paste has had time to work, rinse it off with warm water and then repeat Steps 1 and 2 until the stain is gone. If the stain persists, you may need to try a stronger cleaner such as white vinegar or a laundry pre-treatment product. Test any cleaners on a hidden area of the fabric first to ensure they won't damage the material.
Once you've removed the hairspray stain, you can dry the item by either letting it air dry or using a garment steamer. After you've successfully cleaned the stain, you can wear your spandex again or store it away until you're ready to show it off.
