Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

Before you start cleaning your fabric, you need to gather the right supplies. You’ll need a soft cloth or sponge, a mild detergent, a small bowl, and cool water. Make sure not to use harsh detergents and that you're using lukewarm water — hot water could cause the stain to set in even deeper.

Blot Up Excess Hairspray

Take your soft cloth or sponge and gently blot up any excess hairspray. Don’t rub at the stain, as it can spread and make it more difficult to clean. Instead, blot it until you’ve soaked up as much of the spray as possible.

Make a Cleaning Solution

In the small bowl, mix together a cup of lukewarm water and about a teaspoon of mild detergent. Thoroughly mix the two together, then dip the sponge into the mixture. You don’t want to oversaturate the fabric with the solution — just add enough to lightly dampen area.

Clean Stain

Now that you have the cleaning solution applied to the fabric, use the sponge to gently scrub stain. Keep scrubbing until the hairspray is completely removed. Once it’s gone, take a clean cloth and dab off any remaining residue.

Dry and Check the Stain

Once you’re done cleaning the stain, lay the fabric out flat and let it air dry. Once it’s dry, check to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, try repeating the steps again. If not, your fabric should now be good as new!
