Start by preparing a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water. Dip a cloth in the vinegar solution and dab the stained area, being careful not to rub too hard. Allow the vinegar solution to sit for a few minutes before continuing.
Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of a gentle detergent or stain remover. Put garment in bowl and allow it to soak for about 30 minutes. Depending on the severity of the stain, you may need to repeat this step several times.
Once the stain has been removed, rinse the garment with cold water and allow it to air dry. Do not put the garment in the dryer as heat can set the stain. If the stain has not been completely removed, repeat steps 1-3 until it is gone.
The best way to prevent hairspray stains from occurring in the first place is to never spray hairspray directly onto your garment. Instead, spray your hairdo in the bathroom and make sure to cover any clothing with a towel to protect it from the spray.
