Steps to Clean Hairspray Stains From Silk Faille

  1. Start by blotting away excess hairspray with a damp cloth or paper towel.
  2. Mix one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent, one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water in a bowl.
  3. Using a soft brush, gently rub the stained area with solution.
  4. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for several minutes before rinsing with cool water.
  5. Blot away any leftover moisture with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  6. If the stain persists, mix one teaspoon of ammonia, one cup of warm water, and one tablespoon of liquid detergent in a bowl.
  7. Using a soft cloth, apply the solution to the stained area and allow it to sit for several minutes before rinsing with cool water.
  8. Once again, blot away any leftover moisture with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  9. If the stain still remains, apply a small amount of spot cleaner to the stained area. Gently rub in circular motions until the stain lifts. Be sure to follow the cleaning instructions provided on the product.
  10. Rinse away any leftover cleaning solution with cool water and blot the area with a clean cloth.
  11. Finally, hang the fabric outside or in a well-ventilated area to help remove any residual odor.

Additional Tips

  • Always test any cleaning solution or spot cleaner on a hidden seam or corner of the fabric before using.
  • Avoid using hot water, as this can set the stain into fabric fibers.
  • When possible, avoid fabric softeners or bleach.
  • Clean the area as soon as possible after it gets stained to minimize the risk of stain setting in.
