The first step is to gently blot the stained area with cold water. This will help to remove any excess hairspray residue and also prevent stain from setting.
Mix one part white vinegar and two parts water in a spray bottle. Mist the stained area with the solution and allow it to sit for a few minutes before bloting it again.
Mix one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar in a cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently dab the stained area. Do not rub the fabric as this could cause more damage.
Once you have treated stain with the detergent solution, rinse it thoroughly with cold water. Be sure to blot dry the fabric with a clean cloth or paper towel. Be sure not to wring out the silk fabric as this could cause it to become distorted.
If the above steps do not work, then you may need to take the silk dupioni dress to a professional dry cleaner. This can help to ensure that the stain is completely removed and that the fabric is returned to its original condition.
