When dealing with hairspray stains on silk dupioni fabric, the most important thing is to act fast. The sooner you act, the better chance you have of completely removing the stain. To start, begin blotting the area around the stain immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Depending on severity of the stain, you may need to use a mild detergent and warm water to pre-treat the area before hand-washing. Create a solution of one teaspoon of detergent and two cups of water, then dip a clean cloth into the solution and dab it onto stain. Avoid rubbing the cloth on the fabric as this may cause irreversible damage.

Once you've pre-treated the stain, let it sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off with cold running water. It's important to use cold water instead of warm water as hot water can cause silk to shrink or discolor.

Finally, hand-wash the area in warm water using a mild detergent. Gently lather the detergent into the fabric and rinse thoroughly. Let the garment air-dry and inspect for any remaining residue. If there are still traces of the stain, repeat the above steps until the stain is gone.
