What You'll Need
- White vinegar or rubbing alcohol
- Warm water
- Gentle laundry detergent
- Soft cloth
- Towel
Steps to Remove Hairspray from Shearling
- Mix one tablespoon of your cleaning solution (either white vinegar or rubbing alcohol) with one quart of warm water. Do not use a hot water setting!
- Dampen a soft cloth with the mixture and dab gently at the stained area, making sure not to rub too hard or saturate the fabric.
- Rinse the cloth in warm water and dab the area again, making sure to go against grain of the fabric. This helps to remove any remaining hairspray residue.
- If the stain still persists, add a small amount of gentle laundry detergent to the cloth and continue to dab at the stain until it’s gone.
- Once the stain is gone, rinse the area with clean, warm water, using a towel to soak up any excess moisture.
- Allow the fabric to air dry and enjoy your stain-free shearling!
Additional Tips & Tricks
- Always test cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first.
- Be sure to treat hairspray stains as soon as possible. If left to sit, they may become more difficult to remove.
- Always use a gentle, mild detergent when cleaning shearling as harsher products could damage fabric.
- Be sure to brush the fabric regularly, as this helps to refresh the fabric and keep it looking like new.
