For large deposits of hairspray on shantung, a lint roller can help remove excess product from the fabric. Simply roll the lint roller over the stained area, pressing down firmly to pick up as much of the product as possible. Once you are done, discard the hairspray-saturated roller.
If a lint roller isn't enough to remove the hairspray, you can use a spray-on stain remover. Make sure to read the instructions carefully to check if the Remover is safe for use on shantung. Then, spray the stain from the back to prevent it from spreading. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before blotting it up with a cloth or tissue.
Rubbing alcohol is a powerful cleaning agent that can help get rid of hairspray stains on shantung. Start by pouring some rubbing alcohol onto a cloth and gently rub the stained area until the hairspray begins to loosen. The alcohol may cause the fabric to bleach, so make sure to test it on a hidden spot first.
Vinegar is a great stain remover and is safe to use on shantung. To use it, mix equal parts vinegar and water and use a cloth to soak it into the stain. Allow it to sit for 20-30 minutes before dabbing the area with a cloth. Rinse fabric with cold water and then launder as usual.
If all else fails, take item to a professional dry cleaner. They will be able to use heavy-duty cleaning supplies and techniques that you may not be able to do at home. Be sure to explain what kind of stain you have so they can properly assess the garment before attempting to clean it.
