The first step to getting out a hairspray stain is to identify what kind of stain it is. Generally speaking, hairspray contains alcohol and other ingredients like polymers that can create a type of film on the fabric. This is especially likely on satin fabric since it has a sort of sheen to it, making it more prone to staining.
Before trying any cleaning solution, always do a spot test to check that whatever you're using won't damage the color or texture of the fabric. Once you know it's safe, pre-treat the stain with a gentle laundry detergent. Work a small amount gently into the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing or laundering.
If stain still persists after pre-treating, you may need to carefully scrub fabric. Use a soft bristled brush or sponge to gently scrub stained area, using a circular motion. Be sure to rinse area thoroughly afterward.
Once the stain has been removed, you'll want to launder the garment as normal. To be sure the stain is completely gone, add a scoop of oxygen bleach (not chlorine bleach) to the load. If necessary, you can add a small amount of white vinegar to the wash cycle to ensure the stains are completely lifted.
Hairspray stains on satin can be tricky, but by following these steps you can be sure to get them out as quickly and efficiently as possible. Remember, it's important to test any cleaning product on a small spot beforehand and be gentle when scrubbing the stain. With patience, you can get your garment looking like new again!
