What Supplies Do You Need?

For this project, you will need following items:

  • Mild dishwashing soap
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloth
  • Colgate toothpaste
  • Rubbing alcohol

Step 1: Soak the Stain

The first step is to soak the stained area with mild dishwashing soap and water. Make sure the soap is completely dissolved in the water before soaking the purse. This will help to loosen the hairspray from the material.

Step 2: Rub with White Vinegar

Once the purse has been soaked, take a soft cloth and rub the stained area with white vinegar. The acidity of the vinegar helps to loosen hairspray residue and lift it away from the fabric.

Step 3: Use Colgate Toothpaste

If the stain is still visible after vinegar treatment, then use Colgate toothpaste to help break down the hairspray. Apply the toothpaste directly to stain, rubbing it in gently with a soft cloth. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.

Step 4: Blot with Rubbing Alcohol

Take a clean cloth and soak it with rubbing alcohol. Blot the stained area with cloth until stain is no longer visible. Be sure to not scrub area, as this could damage the material.

Step 5: Let Dry and Wash

Allow purse to air dry before washing it. Once it is dry, it can be washed according to the care instructions that came with the purse.
