Eliminate Hairspray Stains From Pencil Skirts for Good

The first thing to keep in mind is that water can cause a permanent stain to set, so dry cleaning is the suggested method of removing hairspray stains. After your skirt is cleaned, you may want to consider an additional layer of protection against future hair product stains.
Stain Treatments
Before attempting any removal method, check the care instructions on the garment tag to ensure you won’t damage it in the process.
- Dab white vinegar on the stain using a cotton ball. Allow to sit for 15 minutes, then blot with a clean cloth.
- Spray the stain with rubbing alcohol and then dab away with a soft cloth.
- Mix equal parts dish soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. Apply the mixture to the stain and scrub gently with a soft bristled brush.
- If all else fails, take your skirt to the dry cleaner.
Protection Against Future Stains
After your pencil skirt is free of hairspray stains, you can create another layer of protection against future stains with hair spray solvent. This product can be spritzed onto fabrics as a preventive measure.
To use, simply spritz the fabric lightly, let it sit for about five minutes, and then blot with a damp cloth. You can also add a few drops of the solvent to a freshly washed skirt in the laundry. This will help make the fibers less likely to absorb hairspray.
