The first step for removing hairspray stains from outerwear is to start with a gentle cleaning. Start by dabbing the stained area with cold water and a cloth or sponge, then use a mild detergent mixed with cold water and gently rub the stain in a circular motion. The gentler the cleaning, the better, as any harsh cleansers or scrubbing could damage the fabric.
After you’ve finished gently cleaning stain, pre-treat the fabric with a laundry stain remover. Apply a generous amount of remover directly to the stain and let it soak for at least 10 minutes before laundering. If the stain has been there for some time, you may want to pre-treat it several times before laundering.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, add the garment to your regular cold water cycle, using a detergent that is suitable for fabric. Avoid using hot water as this can set the stain and make it more difficult to remove. If possible, air-dry the garment instead of putting it in the dryer. This will prevent the stain from further setting into the fabric.
Removing hairspray stains from outerwear can be a challenge, but with the right steps and attention to detail, it can be done. Following the above steps of gentle cleaning, pre-treating the stain, and laundering with cold water should help to safely and effectively remove hairspray stains from any type of outerwear.
