The first step to cleaning your macramé is to blot the area with a damp cloth to soak up as much of the hairspray residue as possible. Make sure to use a damp cloth and not a wet one, as too much moisture may cause the fabric to shrink or become discolored.
After blotting the stain, it's time to make a mixture of dish soap and warm water. Dip a soft bristle brush into this mixture and gently scrub the stained area in a circular motion. Be sure to test a small inconspicuous area first, as strong cleaners can sometimes damage delicate fabrics.
If after scrubbing the stain still persists, you may have to use a commercial cleaner. Try a product specifically made for removing hairspray stains, or get a commercial cleaner that is safe for the fabric you are working with. Follow the directions on the label carefully and make sure to avoid applying too much pressure as this could damage fabric.
To finish off your stain removal job, rinse the stained area with cool water to remove any excess soap solution. You can then tumble dry the fabric or leave it to air dry.
By following these simple steps, you can easily keep your macramé looking clean and fresh, free of hairspray stains.
