Before you begin, it is important to spot test your cleaning solution on the fabric to ensure that the color of the fabric won't run or get discolored. Test a small, inconspicuous area of the garment by applying just a few drops of the cleaning solution you plan to use. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then blot the area with a clean cloth. If the fabric's color stays the same, you are ready to move on to the next step.
Next, pretreat stain with an enzyme-based detergent. Apply a few drops directly onto the stain and use a clean toothbrush to gently scrub the spot until the stain begins to lift. You may need to soak area for a few minutes to loosen up hairspray.
After pretreating the stain, place garment in the washing machine filled with lukewarm water and a small amount of detergent. Use a gentle cycle and avoid harsh agitation. Once the wash cycle is finished, remove the garment from the machine and check that the stain has been removed.
Lay the garment flat to air dry. Avoid direct exposure to heat and never tumble dry delicate fabrics. Once lace is dry, inspect it carefully to make sure the hairspray stain has been completely removed.
