If you've ever had to contend with a bottle of hairspray, you're likely accustomed to the tell-tale spot it can leave behind, either on clothing or carpeting. But don't fret – with a few household items, you can get rid of those nasty hairspray stains like a pro.
Start by brushing off any excess hairspray residue with a stiff brush. If the stain is on clothing, turn the item inside out and brush in opposite direction of the nap. If you’re trying to remove hairspray stains from carpet, lightly brush downward until the hairspray is gone.
Next, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into mixture and use it to dab at the stain. Make sure not to rub the fabric together, as this could spread stain further. This treatment works especially well on polyester and nylon fabrics.
If vinegar doesn't do the trick, try mixing equal parts baking soda and dishwashing liquid in a bowl. Use the damp cloth to dab at the stain, then let the detergent sit for a few minutes before rinsing it with cold water. This works especially well for polyester and acrylic fabrics.
Repeat these steps until the stain is gone. As needed, repeat this process multiple times to prevent stain from becoming permanent.
