When hairspray lands on leather or fabric bags, it can leave behind difficult-to-remove stains. Before you start any stain-removing process, make sure the instructions for the material of your handbag allow for use of water or detergent. If not, take your bag to a professional dry cleaner.
Before trying to remove the hairspray, thoroughly read the care labels in your handbag to determine which substances and cleaning processes are safe to use. If your handbag has a “Dry Clean Only” tag, you should take it to a professional dry cleaner and avoid using any DIY methods.
When dealing with leather, first try a light blotting technique on the stain with a microfiber cloth. Use blotting technique to help remove excess hairspray from the surface of the handbag.
Mix a small amount of mild soap with warm water and lightly dab a soft cloth into mixture. Gently rub the mixture onto the stained areas of bag and avoid scrubbing the area to prevent damage to the material. Be sure to rinse the cloth in clean water after each dab to prevent the spread of stains.
Once all the hairspray has been removed, allow your handbag to air dry in a cool place away from direct sunlight, as this could cause fading. Avoid using a hairdryer or clothes dryer as this could damage the material.
