Removing Wet Hairspray Stains
The easiest way to remove hairspray from Hanbok is to act quickly. If you catch the stain before it dries, then follow these steps:
- Begin by blotting the stain with a clean dry cloth. Work from the outside of the stain inward, so that you don’t spread it.
- Mix a solution of detergent and warm water. Test the mixture on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won’t damage the fabric.
- Dip a cloth in the solution and gently dab at the stained area. Don’t rub, as this could cause the stain to spread.
- Once stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water and then blot dry with a clean cloth.
Removing Dried Hairspray Stains
If you’re dealing with an older, dried-on stain, then you’ll need to take some extra steps. Here’s what to do:
- Mix a solution of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. Again, test it on an inconspicuous area first.
- Dip a soft cloth in solution and gently rub it into the stain. Don’t scrub too hard.
- Let the solution sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse area with cold water and blot dry with a clean cloth.
- If the stain is still visible, you can also try applying a stain remover specific to silk fabrics.
Preventing Hairspray Stains
Of course, prevention is the best cure. To help prevent hairspray stains on your Hanbok, here are a few tips:
- Spray your hair with hairspray before you put on your Hanbok.
- If possible, stand away from the Hanbok while styling your hair.
- Invest in a protective cape or cover to keep your Hanbok safe.
