What You Will Need

  • Clean cloths
  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda

Step 1: Blotting the Stain

If your gingham garment is still wet with hairspray, start by blotting the stain with clean cloths to absorb as much excess hairspray as possible. Don't rub the stain, as this can spread the hairspray and make it even more difficult to remove.

Step 2: Pre-Treating the Stain

Once you’ve blotted stain, you need to pre-treat it before laundering. Mix together a solution of laundry detergent, white vinegar, and baking soda, then apply it to the stain. Let solution sit for several minutes before rinsing it away.

Step 3: Laundering the Garment

Once the stain has been pre-treated, you can launder the garment as usual. Check the care label on the garment to determine the best water temperature, and add a scoop of laundry detergent while the washer is filling with water. Once the cycle is complete, double-check the stained area to make sure the hairspray is gone.
