What You'll Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Distilled water
  • Clean rags

Step 1: Pre-treat the Stain

Before laundering your garments, pre-treat the hairspray stains. Start by blotting the stain with a clean rag dipped in distilled water. Don't rub vigorously- gently blot the fabric until the liquid is drawn out of the fibers.

Step 2: Create a Soaking Solution

Fill a sink with lukewarm water and add a few teaspoons of laundry detergent and a ¼ cup of white vinegar. Mix the solution until the detergent is completely dissolved and submerge the clothing item in the water. Let it soak for 15-20 minutes.

Step 3: Wash the Garment

After the garment is done soaking, put it into the washing machine with a regular laundry load. Set the machine to the coldest water temperature setting and make sure the load is properly balanced. Add the appropriate amount of laundry detergent and run the cycle.

Step 4: Hang to Dry

Remove the garment from the washing machine and hang it up to air dry. If the stains are still visible after the cycle, repeat steps 1-3 before putting the garment in the dryer. Be sure to check the care label for drying instructions- some fabrics should not be tumble dried.
