What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloth or brush
  • Laundry detergent

Step One: Blot the Stain

The first step to removing hairspray stains is to blot the stained area with a damp cloth. This will help remove any excess moisture that might be causing the stain to spread further.

Step Two: Create a Vinegar Solution

Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water and apply the solution to the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes, then blot with a clean, damp cloth.

Step Three: Sprinkle Baking Soda on Stain

Next, sprinkle baking soda onto the stained area and let it sit for up to 30 minutes. This helps to further break down the hairspray residue, making it easier to remove.

Step Four: Brush Away the Stain

Use a soft brush or cloth to gently brush away the baking soda and any other residue that may remain. You may need to repeat this step several times to fully remove stain.

Step Five: Wash with Detergent

Once you've removed as much of the stain as possible, you can use a regular laundry detergent to further clean the area. Follow the instructions on the detergent's label and remember to not use too much detergent, as this could cause further staining.
