Assess The Stain

Before you begin cleaning, look carefully at stain to identify what type it is and what has caused it. This can help you determine which cleansing product to use. To remove hairspray from double georgette, you’ll need to use a combination of detergent and rubbing alcohol.

Pre-Treat The Stain

Create a mixture of 5 parts water and 1 part detergent solution and spritz some of it directly onto the stain. Use a soft brush to work the solution into the fabric for about 30 seconds. Allow the solution to sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

Apply Rubbing Alcohol

Once the stain is pre-treated, it’s time to apply rubbing alcohol to it. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly onto the stain and use a soft cloth to rub it in, working from the outside in. Once you’ve worked the alcohol into the fabric, rinse it off with warm water.

Blot With A Towel

When you’ve wiped away the alcohol and as much of stain as you can, use a dry towel to blot the area. Blotting will help to remove any remaining hairspray residue. Keep blotting until the area is dry.

Repeat As Necessary

If the stain still isn’t coming out, you can repeat process as often as necessary. If the stain proves stubborn, you can also try using a pre-treatment spray or stain remover specifically designed for delicate fabrics like double georgette.
