To get started, you'll need to gather some supplies. You'll need mild detergent, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, a clean cloth and a soft brush.
Before applying any cleaning agents, you should carefully inspect the fabric to make sure hairspray has not damaged any wool fibers. If it has, you should take the garment to a professional dry cleaner. Next, turn the dashiki inside out and run cold water over the stains.
Once the fabric is prepped, it's time to work on removing hairspray. Begin by gently rubbing a mild detergent into the affected area with a clean cloth, then let the solution sit for five minutes. After solution has set, rinse the stains with cold water and dab the area with a towel to remove excess liquid.
If the stain is still apparent after applying detergent, you can either use a solution of white vinegar and water or hydrogen peroxide. Using a soft brush, lightly scrub the area with the solution of your choice and allow it to sit for around 10 minutes. Once the solution has had time to work, rinse it off with cold water and dab the area with a towel to remove excess liquid.
If the stain is still present after completing the above steps, repeat the process until stain is no longer visible. It may take multiple attempts to completely remove the hairspray stains from the dashiki fabric.
To prevent future hairspray stains on the dashiki fabric, avoid wearing the garment in areas where large amounts of hairspray are used. You should also cover the garment with a plastic or cloth cape when using hairspray or other styling products near the fabric.
