Steps for Cleaning Hairspray Stains

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap with 1 cup of warm water and scrub the stained area of the cutting board with a cloth or sponge.
  2. If stain persists, sprinkle baking soda onto the area and scrub it in with a brush, then rinse off with warm water.
  3. If the hairspray is still visible, mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 1 cup of warm water. Soak a clean cloth in the mixture and rub it over affected area. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
  4. If the stain is still visible, mix 1 cup of bleach with 2 gallons of warm water and submerge the stained area in the mixture for one hour. Rinse thoroughly with warm water when done.

Preventative Tips

  • Regularly clean and sanitize your cutting boards with warm soapy water.
  • To sanitize your cutting boards, wipe down the surface with a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per 1 gallon of warm water.
  • Cutting boards made out of wood require more maintenance than plastic boards, as they can easily absorb liquid, including cleaning solutions.
  • Stains caused by colored foods (berries, tomatoes, etc.) can be removed by rubbing them with a lemon wedge and then rinsing with warm water.
