Step One: Gather Supplies

To start, you'll need a clean cloth, some laundry detergent, white vinegar, and a scrub brush. If the stains are particularly stubborn, you may want to go out and purchase a specialty stain remover.

Step Two: Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step is to pre-treat the stain before laundering. Start by wetting the stain with warm water and then apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly on top. Leave it for a few minutes and then use your scrub brush to gently rub detergent into the fabric. This will help to loosen the hairspray residue.

Step Three: Soak in White Vinegar

Once you have pre-treated stain, pour some white vinegar onto the stained area and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. The vinegar helps to neutralize the hairspray and make it easier to remove during laundering process.

Step Four: Launder as Usual

After the coveralls have soaked in the vinegar, launder them as usual. Choose a gentle cycle and add an extra rinse cycle to ensure all the hairspray residue is removed. Be sure to read care label on the coveralls before laundering, as some fabrics should not be machine washed.

Step Five: Check for Remaining Stains

After laundering, check to see if any traces of hairspray remain. If so, repeat steps two through four until the stain has been completely removed.
