Start by lightly dabbing the stain with a dry cloth to pick up any excess hairspray. Don't rub or scrub the spot, as this can spread the stain and make it worse.
Once you've removed as much of the excess hairspray as possible, wet a cloth with lukewarm water and gently press the spot, working from outside in. This will help to lift the stain away. Be sure to use a light touch, as vigorous scrubbing can damage the fabric.
If the stain is still visible after treating with lukewarm water, you'll need to pre-treat it with a detergent. Test a small amount of detergent on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it's colorfast, then apply a generous amount of detergent directly to the stain. Let the detergent sit for 10 minutes before proceeding.
Next, machine wash the item, making sure to use a gentle cycle and cold water. If the stain persists, repeat Steps 2-4, but this time add a few tablespoons of white vinegar to the pre-treatment solution. When the item has been washed and dried, check for any remaining signs of stain.
