Moisten a clean, white cloth with cold water and blot the affected area to remove as much of the hairspray as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain as this will cause it to set in even deeper.
Mix one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of warm water and gently dab the mixture onto the stain. Allow the solution to sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly with cold water.
If the stain persists, make a paste of one part salt and four parts water and dab it onto the affected area. Leave this solution to soak in for up to one hour. Once the stain has softened, rinse the solution away using cold water.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water in a spray bottle and lightly mist stained area. Allow this solution to remain for 15 minutes, then rinse it away with cold water. This will help to break down any residual hairspray still present in the fabric.
After you have removed the hairspray stain, launder the item as usual in your washing machine. Use a gentle cycle and cold water, and hang the garment to dry. If the stain persists, you may need to repeat steps above.
