Before you attempt any cleaning method, it’s important to check the care label sewn into the interior of the bag. This will tell you what kind of solvents and cleaning agents are safe to use on the material. It is especially important to pay attention to this step when dealing with leather or other sensitive materials.
Do a spot test with the cleaning agents on a hidden area of the bag before using it on the stains. This will ensure that the cleaner won’t damage or discolor the material. Once you’ve done the spot test and made sure that there are no undesired results, you can move onto the cleaning part.
Choose a cleaning agent suitable for the material of the bag (as instructed on the care label) and apply it to the stained area using a soft cloth or brush. Work the cleaner in gently and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.
After the 15 minutes are up, rinse the area with a damp cloth and then dry it with a dry towel. Finally, let the bag air dry completely before putting it away.
