Though cashmere is a luxurious and resilient fabric, it can be quite tricky to keep clean. Things such as body oils, perspiration, and - commonly used nowadays - hair sprays can leave marks and dirt on the fabric, making your clothing look dingy and old.
Step-by-Step Process to Clean Hair Spray Stains from Cashmere Garments
- Inspect your cashmere garment for any signs of damage. Check for fraying threads, weak areas, etc. Once you’ve determined that the fabric is structurally sound, it’s time to begin the cleaning process.
- Mix 1/4 cup (60 mL) of white vinegar or lemon juice with 2 cups (500 mL) of water in a large bowl or bucket. Swish the liquid around until it is foamy.
- Submerge the stained portion of the cashmere fabric into the solution and gently swish it around for a couple of minutes.
- Transfer the fabric to a tub of cold, fresh water and let it soak for up to 15 minutes.
- Remove the garment from the water and place it on a flat surface. Using a small, soft bristled brush, gently scrub the stained area in a circular motion.
- If stain persists, dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and dab it onto the affected area. Rub gently in a circular motion.
- Rinse the fabric in lukewarm water, then lay it flat on a towel and press gently with another towel to remove any excess moisture.
- Lay cashmere garment out flat to air dry completely.
With a bit of patience and TLC, you can keep your cashmere looking like new. Just follow this straightforward guide and you should be able to get rid of those unsightly hairspray stains without much effort.
