Start by taking a dry cloth and scooping up any excess residue that you can. Don’t rub too hard, as you don’t want to damage the delicate embroidery. When you’re done, place the fabric on an ironing board and press it with a warm (not hot!) iron to remove any remaining traces of hairspray.
Do not use soap or bleach as they can be too harsh and could damage the intricate stitches of the lace. Once the fabric has been soaked for 15 minutes, rinse it thoroughly in cool, clean water.
Hang the fabric up to air-dry, and make sure not to put in the dryer. The heat from a dryer can potentially damage fabric even more.
If there are still any stubborn areas, spot-treat them with a mild laundry detergent. Let the detergent sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cool, clean water. You may have to repeat this step a few times to fully remove the stain.
When the fabric is completely dry, take a look at it to make sure all the hairspray remnants have been removed. If not, go back to step four. Once you’re happy with results, hang the fabric up to bask in its restored beauty!
