How to Easily Remove Hairspray Stains from Calico

What You’ll Need
- Liquid laundry detergent
- White vinegar
- Lemon juice
- Warm water
Step 1: Scrape off any excess hairspray residue
Using a spoon or dull knife, carefully scrape off as much of the hairspray residue as you can from the fabric. Be careful not to press too hard as this could damage the delicate calico fibers.
Step 2: Combine equal parts laundry detergent and warm water
In a bucket or sink, mix together equal parts warmed-up laundry detergent and water. Stir well until the detergent has fully dissolved in water.
Step 3: Soak the fabric for an hour
Place the fabric in the bucket or sink filled with the detergent solution. Allow the fabric to soak for a minimum of an hour.
Step 4: Rinse out the fabric
Once the fabric has finished soaking, rinse it thoroughly with clean, warm water until all traces of the detergent have been removed.
Step 5: Make a paste with vinegar and lemon juice
In a separate bowl, mix together equal parts white vinegar and freshly squeezed lemon juice to form a thick paste. Spread the paste onto the affected area and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
Step 6: Wash the fabric
After the paste has had a chance to set, wash the fabric in a washing machine on a delicate cycle with mild detergent. Once cycle is complete, hang the fabric up to dry.
Step 7: Repeat if necessary
If the stain still persists after the first round of cleaning, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until the stain has been completely lifted.
