The best way to remove hairspray stains is with a mixture of detergent and water. Start by mixing one part detergent to three parts lukewarm water. After mixing together, use the solution to directly spot treat stained area by applying it with a soft cloth or brush. Once the spot is saturated, let it sit for around 5 minutes, then rub the area gently in a circular motion with a damp cloth. Finally, blot away any excess residue with a clean towel, rinse with cold water, and let the garment air dry.
Vinegar and baking soda are two common household items that make an effective stain-fighting duo. Start by mixing one tablespoon of white vinegar with one teaspoon of baking soda in a small bowl. When combined, the mixture should start to fizz. Next, use a sponge dab to directly apply cleaner onto the stained area and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Finally, rinse the solution off with cold water and repeat if the stain persists. If the stain has been successfully removed, you can launder the shirt as normal.
Rubbing alcohol is another popular choice to help remove tough hairspray stains. Start by diluting one part rubbing alcohol with two parts warm water. Use a soft cloth or brush to directly apply the diluted solution onto the stained area, rubbing in a gentle circular motion until the entire area is saturated. Allow the mixture to penetrate the fabric for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with cold water and let the garment air dry. Repeat if necessary until the stain is gone.
