Hairspray is great for taming wild hair but it can cause some serious damage to clothing if you're not careful. If you find yourself with an unfortunate stain, don't panic – there are things you can do to remove the excess product and make your suit look as good as new.
If you find a hairspray stain on your business suit, the first step is to pre-treat it. Begin by blotting the stain with a cloth or sponge to absorb as much of hairspray as possible. You can use a mild detergent such as dishwashing liquid or a specialty stain remover, although be sure to read the instructions before applying it to your suit.
After pre-treating stain, you'll need to launder the garment. Check the care instructions on the label to ensure you're using the correct settings, then add a scoop of laundry detergent and run the cycle. Be sure to check the garment before drying it to make sure the stain has been removed.
If the stain still won't come out after laundering, try treating it with oxygen bleach. Oxygen bleach is a color-safe alternative to chlorine bleach and it's great for removing tough stains like hairspray. Be sure to follow the instructions on the package and test it on a hidden area of the fabric to make sure it won't damage the fibers.
Hairspray stains can be a real pain, but with a bit of effort and patience you can get them out. Pre-treat the stain, launder the garment and use oxygen bleach if necessary – this should be enough to remove even the toughest of stains!
