Hairspray can be a great way to style your hair, but it can also mean disaster for your favorite boots. Whether you're looking to get rid of a dried spot or need to clean up after an accident, there are several ways to tackle those stubborn hairspray stains. Here's how to keep your boots clean and looking their best.

Removing Fresh Spills

When it comes to fresh spills, the trick is to act fast. The longer the hairspray has to dry on the fabric, tougher it becomes to remove. Here's what you'll need:

  • A damp cloth
  • Mild dish detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda

Start by blotting affected area with a damp cloth. If the stain is still wet, mix a couple of drops of mild dish detergent with a bit of white vinegar. Apply it directly to the stain and gently massage the solution into the fabric. Then, rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary. If the stain persists, sprinkle baking soda over the affected area and leave it overnight. The next day, brush off the baking soda and repeat cleaning process. Finally, rinse any remaining soap residue with cold water.

Cleaning Dried Spots

If the hairspray has already dried, the cleaning process will be a bit more complicated. To start, create a paste from a few teaspoons of baking soda and a bit of water. Rub it onto the stained area with a cloth and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then, use a damp cloth to gently rub the paste off the fabric in a circular motion. After that, mix some mild dish detergent with a bit of white vinegar and apply it directly to the stain. Gently massage the solution into the fabric before rinsing with cold water. Finally, dry fabric with a clean towel and repeat process if needed.

Washing Machine Method

If the hairspray has dried and the stain is still visible, try the washing machine method. First, spot clean the affected area with a damp cloth and a solution of mild dish detergent and white vinegar. Then, turn the boots inside out and place them in a mesh bag before putting them in the washing machine. Set the machine to a gentle cycle with cold water and let it run its course. After the cycle is finished, take the boots out of the washer and allow them to air dry. Do not put them in the dryer, as heat can cause further damage or discoloration.
