The first step towards removing hairspray stains from an area rug is to vacuum the area thoroughly in order to remove any dirt or debris that might be obscuring stain. Make sure to use a soft brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner, as this will be gentler on area rug’s fibers.
Once area rug is vacuumed, take a white cloth and use it to blot up as much of the hairspray stain as possible. Take a spoon to gently scrape off any chunks of hairspray that have dried onto the area rug. Be careful not to rub the area too harshly, as this could damage the fibers of the rug.
Next, dampen a clean cloth with a dry-cleaning solvent. This type of cleaning solution is specifically designed to break down hairspray and other stubborn stains. Gently blot the stain with the damp cloth until all of the hairspray has been removed.
Once area rug has been treated with dry-cleaning solvent, take another cloth or towel and gently rinse area with cold water. This will help remove any remaining hairspray residue, as well as make sure that all of the dry-cleaning solvent has been removed from the stain.
Once you’ve removed the hairspray stain, take the area rug outside and hang it up to let it air-dry. It’s important to let rug dry completely before placing anything back on it, as this will help prevent further staining.
