Stains from hairspray on acrylic surfaces can be frustrating, but they don’t have to be. There are some easy and simple ways to get them off without any scrubbing or special cleaners. Here are some of the best options.
The first step is to use a mild soap and water solution (dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent work best). Wet a washcloth or cotton ball with solution and then gently rub the affected area. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away any residue. If the stain is still visible, use a little bit of white vinegar and warm water on the same cloth and continue scrubbing. The combination of the two should help to loosen and remove the hairspray residue.
If the stain persists after washing with soap and water, you can try scrubbing with a mixture of baking soda and water. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with enough water to create a paste. Apply the paste to the stained area and let sit for several minutes. Scrub with a damp cloth and rinse with clean water. Repeat as needed until the stain is gone.
Rubbing alcohol is an acidic agent that can be used to break down hairspray residue. Use a soft cloth to apply rubbing alcohol directly to the stain and let sit for several minutes. Then use the same cloth to scrub and remove the residue. Wipe off with a clean cloth and then rinse with warm water. Repeat if necessary.
There are a few commercial cleaners available that specifically target hairspray stains on acrylic. These products can be bought at most hardware stores or online. Follow the instructions on the label and test in an inconspicuous area before applying to the entire surface. When finished, wipe down with a clean cloth or sponge and rinse with cool water.
It can be bothersome to remove hairspray stains from acrylic surfaces, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right approach, you can easily and quickly get the stains off in no time. Try using soap and water, baking soda and water, rubbing alcohol, or a commercial cleaner to help get the job done.
