Step 1: Scrape Off Excess Grease or Oil

Before applying any cleaning solution to the stained area, you should use a spoon or butter knife to scrape off as much of the grease or oil as possible. This will reduce the amount of cleaning needed afterward and make process more effective.

Step 2: Apply a Detergent Solution

Mix one teaspoon of mild detergent, such as dishwashing liquid, with two cups of lukewarm water. Sponge mixture onto the stained area and let it sit for about 30 minutes. After that, rinse the area with lukewarm water and blot dry with a clean cloth.

Step 3: Pretreat with a Solvent

If stain still remains, try using a solvent such as rubbing alcohol or dry-cleaning solvent. Place a small amount of the solvent on a cotton ball or an old toothbrush, and lightly scrub the stained area. Remember to only use solvent in a well-ventilated area and keep it away from open flames.

Step 4: Rinse and Repeat

If necessary, repeat steps 2 and 3 as often as needed until the stain is completely removed. Once the stain is gone, rinse the area with lukewarm water, then run the garment through a regular cycle in the washing machine to remove any residue from the detergents or solvents.

Additional Tips

  • Always test a small hidden area of the garment first before applying any cleaning solution or solvent.
  • Use only mild detergents on wool fabric to avoid damaging material.
  • Avoid using hot water when cleaning grease and oil stains, as this could cause them to set permanently.
  • After cleaning the stain, air dry the garment or lay it flat on a towel.
