No matter how careful you are when cooking or performing other activities, grease and oil stains on tops can be an unavoidable problem. While they may seem challenging, these stains are fairly easy to remove. To get started, you’ll need:

  • Dish soap
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper towel

Once you have all the items, this is how you can tackle the stains:

  1. Mix one part dish soap with one part rubbing alcohol. You can also use laundry detergent with cold water.
  2. Using a paper towel, apply the mixture to stain.
  3. Massage the cloth into spots and allow the liquid to soak in.
  4. Rinse the area with cold water until the stain has gone.
  5. Do not put the top in the dryer before ensuring it is completely dry; air-drying is preferred.

If you have time and resources, consider taking your top to a dry cleaner. Professional dry cleaners are experienced in removing tough grease and oil stains and can help you avoid any potential shrinking problems that may occur if you attempt to wash the top at home.
