If your tie has been stained by oil, then it can be a bit tricky to remove. The most common causes of oil stains on ties are from cooking oils, cooking grease, makeup, and lotions. To start removing oil stains from your tie, you'll need a few supplies:

  • A clean cloth or paper towel
  • Spoon or butter knife
  • A mild detergent such as dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Water

First, use a spoon or butter knife to carefully scrape away any solid residue from stained area of your tie. Be careful not to spread the stain further while scraping. You can also gently dab stained area with a damp cloth or paper towel. This will help to lift some of the oil from the fabric.

Next, you'll need to prepare a cleaning solution. Mix a couple of drops of mild detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar into a cup of warm water. Dab this solution onto the stained area of your tie using a clean cloth or paper towel. Let the solution soak into the fabric for a few minutes before blotting up any excess.

Finally, put your tie in the washing machine on a delicate cycle. Use cold water and a low temperature setting, as hot water and high heat can set stain. Afterwards, hang your tie out to dry in a cool and well-ventilated area.

Now your tie should look and feel like new again! With these simple cleaning steps, you'll be able to quickly and easily remove grease and oil stains from your favorite necktie.
