What You Will Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Small bowl

Step 1: Pre-Treating the Stain

Begin by blotting stain with a soft cloth or sponge and warm water. Once the fabric is damp, lightly rub it with laundry detergent. Use a moderate amount of pressure as you work the detergent into the stained area. Allow the detergent to sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2: Wash in Cold Water

Once the detergent has had a chance to settle into the stained area, wash the fabric in cold water in accordance with the care instructions that came with the fabric. Place a small amount of detergent in the bowl and mix it with some cold water if desired. Then, let fabric soak in the bowl for at least 20 minutes. For tougher stains allow the fabric to soak overnight.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat

After the fabric has had a chance to soak, rinse it in cold water. If the stain is still visible, repeat the washing process. Mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of baking soda in a bowl and add the fabric. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes and then rinse again. Hang the fabric to dry.
