Step 1: Pre-Treat Stain

The first step is to pre-treat the affected area with a gentle detergent or stain remover. Blot stain first, rather than rubbing it. If the stain is fresh, you can use a clean cloth or paper towel to dab it, making sure not to spread it. If it’s an older stain, use a soft brush or scrubbing pad.

Step 2: Soak the Fabric

Fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water and add a mild detergent made for washing delicate fabrics. Immerse the stained area of the swimsuit and let it soak for at least five minutes. Gently agitate the fabric in the soapy water if necessary, but do not scrub or wring it.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry

Rinse swimsuit in lukewarm to cool water until all of the soap is gone. Then, lay the garment flat to dry on a clean, dry towel. Make sure to blot the fabric with a paper towel if the stain is still visible.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid using hot water or excessive agitation as this can set stain and damage the fabric.
  • If regular detergents aren’t working, try treating the stain with a pre-wash stain remover or an enzyme-based detergent.
  • To help prevent future oil and grease stains, avoid getting sunscreen, tanning oil, or lotion on your swimsuit.
