To start, take some kitchen paper or a cloth and gently blot the stain to soak up any excess oil or grease. Be careful not to rub too hard; you don't want to spread the stain further.
With a clean cloth, apply a small amount of warm water and a drop of soap or detergent directly on the stain. Then, gently rub the area in a circular motion for no more than a minute. Do not scrub stain vigorously.
Thoroughly rinse the area with warm water, and use another cloth to remove all of the remaining soap residue.
On a clean white towel, spread the stain out so it's flat. Place a few drops of laundry detergent on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.
Gently rub stain with a soft-bristled toothbrush to lift any stubborn stains that may still remain.
Finally, launder sweater according to instructions on its label. If it's a delicate item, you may need to opt for dry cleaning instead.
Once garment is washed, hang it outside to dry, making sure not to expose it to direct sunlight.
By following the steps outlined above, you can easily remove grease and oil stains from your knitwear without damaging the fabric. Good luck!
