The first step in getting any stain out of your clothing is to act quickly. The longer that oil or grease sits on the fabric, the more difficult it will be to remove, so don't wait! If you have time, put the item in the freezer — it won't completely remove the stain, but it will make it easier to get out.
The key to getting a grease or oil stain out of your sleepwear is to use the correct cleaning products. Start by using a laundry pre-treater to help break down stain. Spray or dab the pre-treater directly onto the stain, making sure to cover entire area — not just visible parts — and let it sit for a few minutes. Once it's had time to soak in, you can start to gently scrub the fabric with a soft washcloth.
Once you've scrubbed the fabric with the pre-treater, it's time to wash the clothing. Use a mild detergent, such as an oxygen-based cleaner, and set washing machine to the warmest setting appropriate for your fabric. Be sure to read the care instructions on the label before putting your sleepwear in the washer.
Finally, air dry the clothing instead of putting it in the dryer. Heat from the dryer can set in oil and grease stains, so it's best to air dry the garment instead. After the clothing has dried, check to make sure there are no lingering stains — if there are, you may need to repeat the process.
Removing grease and oil stains from your sleepwear doesn't have to be a hassle. Just use the right cleaning products, act quickly, and you’ll be able to keep your sleepwear looking like new for years to come!
