Materials Needed

  • Damp white cloth
  • White paper towels
  • Dry-cleaning solvent
  • Liquid dish detergent

Instructions

  1. Before treating, take your silk dupioni to the dry cleaner for inspection. If the item isn’t colorfast, it likely can’t be cleaned.
  2. Blot the stain with a damp white cloth to remove as much excess oil as possible.
  3. When as much of the oil as possible has been removed, cover the area with white paper towels.
  4. Sponge the back side of the stain with a dry-cleaning solvent. Be sure to use a gentle blotting motion, rather than rubbing.
  5. Continue blotting with another dry paper towel to remove any remaining solvent.
  6. If the stain still remains, add a drop of liquid dish soap to a white cloth and again use a blotting motion to treat the stain.
  7. Rinse the area with warm water and leave to air dry.
