The first step in any stain removal process is pretreatment. For oily or greasy stains on silk dupioni, start by blotting the area with a clean, white cloth to absorb as much of the excess oil or grease as possible. Once that is done, it’s time to move on to next step.
The next step is to apply a mild cleaning solution to the stain. This can be a store-bought cleaning solution such as Oxy Clean or something as simple as a mixture of mild liquid dish soap and warm water. Gently dab the solution onto the stain and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
Once cleaning solution has had a chance to work, it’s time to blot the area with a clean white cloth again to remove the solution and any remaining grime. Then, rinse the area with cold water and blot it once more. Be sure not to rub stain as this could cause it to spread.
To finish up, lay the fabric flat and allow it to air dry completely. Once dry, inspect the spot to make sure all of the grease and oil has been removed. If not, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone.
