Getting rid of oil and grease stains from scarves can seem overwhelming, however, it doesn’t need to be. With a few easy-to-follow steps and some basic household items, you can restore your scarf back to its original beauty in no time. Here’s how:
Before you attempt to remove the stain, it’s important to identify the fabric of your scarf. Different fabrics require different cleaning methods. Is the scarf made of silk, cashmere, wool, or cotton? If you’re not sure, check the tags or ask a professional.
Using a cloth or paper towel, gently blot the stain. Do not rub or scrub the stain, as this could cause it to spread or set deeper into the scarf. Keep blotting until no more grease or oil is transferred to the cloth.
Gently apply a mild dish soap or laundry detergent to the affected area. Let sit for 5 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Repeat this step until the stain fades completely.
If the stain still remains after using soap, mix together equal parts white vinegar and baking soda (1 teaspoon of each should do). Lightly rub the mixture onto stain and let sit for 10 minutes. Afterwards, rinse off the product and repeat this step until the stain is gone.
Once you’ve removed the stain, it’s important to dry the scarf properly. You can either hang it outside to air dry or machine dry on the low setting. Make sure to turn the scarf inside out before you put it in the dryer.
With these steps, you’ll be able to easily remove toughest grease and oil stains from your favorite scarves. Good luck and happy cleaning!
