Instructions

  1. Create a mixture of equal parts baking soda and detergent powder. Alternatively, you can use any other detergent that is not overly harsh or abrasive.
  2. Blot the affected area with a paper towel or cloth to remove as much excess grease and oil as possible.
  3. Sprinkle the baking soda/detergent mixture onto the stained area. Rub it into the fabric with a toothbrush or similar instrument.
  4. Rinse the area with water. Be sure to blot the water away with a towel.
  5. Once the area has been sufficiently rinsed and dried, apply a stain remover or oxy-type cleaner to the area.
  6. Let the cleaner sit for 10 minutes and then rinse again with water.
  7. Rinse until all the soap has been removed and then blot dry one last time.

Tips

  • For truly persistent stains, repeat steps 4 through 7 as needed.
  • Be sure to air-dry your sari after washing it.
  • If your sari is made of delicate fabric, take it to dry cleaner.

Warning

Always check the washing instructions included with your sari before cleaning! Some fabrics should not be washed in water.
