Sandals are a favorite of many in the warm summer months, but these lightweight shoes can quickly become stained with grease or oil. Once these substances have been absorbed by the material, removing them without damaging the sandal can seem intimidating. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean your sandals to get rid of any grease or oil spots.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

In order to properly remove stain, you need to be prepared. Gather together supplies such as dish soap, a soft cloth, a toothbrush, baking soda, white vinegar, and a laundry pre-treatment spray.

Step 2: Test Patches of Material

Using a dampened cloth, apply dish soap to separate areas of the sandal material. Test each area to ensure that the material will not bleed if you apply cleaning solution. Once you find a spot that does not cause discoloration, you can move on to the next step.

Step 3: Create a Cleaning Solution

Mix dish soap and baking soda together in a small bowl to form a paste. This paste should be applied to affected areas of the sandal. Be sure to spread it out evenly, as it will act as an absorbent.

Step 4: Scrub Away Stains

Once the paste has been applied to the sandal, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub away the stain. Do this in a circular motion, working your way from outside of the stain to the center. This will help to lift the oils from material.

Step 5: Rinse and Repeat

Once stain has been removed, rinse the sandal off in cold water. If the stain is still present, repeat the steps until it has been fully removed. You may also want to apply a laundry pre-treatment spray to the affected area to help prevent it from staining again.

Step 6: Air Dry

Once the sandal has been thoroughly cleaned, allow it to air dry completely. Do not put it in the dryer, as the heat may cause permanent damage to the material.

By following these steps, you can easily remove grease and oil stains from your sandals. With a little bit of care, you can keep your sandals looking new for longer!
